Having seen Alex Cox' 'Repo-Man' I was accustomed to the raw gritty nature of those films that you saw in that era. So here we are in the year of our Lord 2006, and I finally decided to see this movie, and let me tell you it's a good thing I did not view this feature as a child. I don't even know why Maher is in this movie as he has very little to do. Thankfully, he's regulated to the back-burner of this movie, but sadly the same thing can be said of the only two reasons you'd ever watch this film: Mr. Porky's, Doctor Detroit and Car Wash are just some examples of this kind of humor. If you think Joel Schumacher's movies are garbage today as I do, check your prejudices at the door.
Quick name a good movie Bill Maher was ever in? Cab does have a moral, that if you really believe and work hard, you can make your life better. A subplot is thrown in, sort of, which brings our deadbeat delinquent drivers of D. There are a lot of good one-liners in this movie and they still stand the test of time. This film grabs you right from the start and never lets go. No one should ever admit to enjoying this flick, as it is awash in stupidity and dripping in dumbness. Joel Schumacher once again proves that it's not what you know in Hollywood, but who you go down on. It's a fun movie, a good way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Just out curiosity: How hard is it to write a movie around Mr T or Gary Busey? Albert comes to town with a dream of starting his own cab company but needs to motivate Harold's employees to want to make something out of themselves. There are many memorable classic moments, in this '84 Comedy, that has some great boobies, great mateship and exciting, ala, Schumacher. They certainly don't make them like this anymore. It is only when Albert is kidnapped that the cabbies must decide whether or not they are loyal to Albert and his cause. It embodies everything you want in an early 80s picture, Filth, Humor, Upbeat Music, Attitude and Mr. T played his role very believably and really hammed up those classic Mr. More than anything, it shows a grittier side of our nation's capital and I don't mean the government! My parents would have killed me.
This comedy classic has great performances and totally off the wall, colorful characters. Gary Busey is awesome as Dell, who utters some of the best one-liners in movie history in this movie. Joel Schumacher and Topper Carew's script is very quick, brash and downright hilarious. Ron Perelman's very rich ex , Gary Busey, Marsha Warfield, Irene Cara and Bill Maher when he wasn't gray. C Cab to the rescue.
This movie is his best by far. Just remember kids,I don't work on January 8th, cuz that's Elvis' birthday. This movie is very entertaining for children and suffers from all the profanity. Albert comes to town with a dream of starting his own cab company but needs to motivate Harold's employees to want to make something out of themselves. I just remember she looked fantastic! If you're not too picky about movie plots and just want a laugh, you might like this as much as I do.
This was a grown up feature with adult themes, and I must say an excellent movie. It's characters, the wild Busey, the memorable standout, apart from Gail. Often juvenile, often exploitative, never meant to be taken seriously, an uneven performance from its lead particularly an inconsistent accent and occasional sloppy sentimentality drag the movie down. Mr T is great in the movie, he has a pretty large role. For best results get a tape of the Mission Impossible theme music. Maudie more The tale of a hapless group of cabbies and a rundown cab company owned by Harold. I admit, it brought down the movie but the actors saved it by taking a ridiculous twist and make it look so much better on screen.
Some others that had viewed it at that screening agreed. So, I always had this preeminition of that being the storyline of the movie. The company is on the verge of getting shut down because of their competition with the Emerald Cab company. Working with Kubrick couldn't have been easy. It is also nice to watch a movie where black characters feel comfortable enough to call stupid white people crackers. Incidently, the White House ending was mentioned in the Washington Post movie review on the movie's opening day. True, some of the humor is crude, yet the movie has an undeniable, cheesy charm.
T, Bill Mahar, the Barbarian Brothers bodybuilders Peter and Paul , Gary Busey and Paul Rodriguez? T as Samson oner of Harold's hard knocking taxi drivers who in the end rescues Albert and the kids by yanking him out of the kidnappers van minus his boots. The 4 erroneous assumptions made in the making of D. T is at his best, Busey is, well, Busey, and Adam Baldwin's performance makes the Baldwin Brothers wish he was related to them.
