The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter and O2 sensors needed to be replaced. I will never buy aniother car from gm again. A local mechanic replaced the passenger headlight assembly, but the driver headlight also failed. I then realize I could have killed those people, myself and in any other situation on a daily basis, my sons life as well. Overall, I'd say its a great car, a great value, has lots of storage space, and gets great gas mileage. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Our daughter's 2006 Malibu was doing the same thing which she took in under the original warranty.
The light covers get really hot and I am assuming that it is a defective part. The melting plastic has dripped down onto the bulbs and the fumes from the melting plastic have fogged up part of the headlight lens. The original bulb melted the orange cover inside the headlight assembly for the parking lights. Gm has a problem and will not do anything to fix it. It's still a solid ride at 128K.
In addition, the brake lights remained illuminated when the brakes had not been applied. It has happened while making turns, going around roundabouts, on the highway, and on a regular 15 min. The car would not steer. I was told at that time gm was aware and working on it. Loaded the baby-seat, and went to start car, dead battery symptom again.
I am very concerned that this could cause a fire. The cold weather temperatures were not a factor. I love the way it handles, it allows for very aggressive driving. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. While idling at a stop sign, the steering wheel bounced and made a clicking noise.
Wheels turn to the right? I took the vehicle to the dealer where I bought the car and they had to replace the steering rack. I purchased a new starter and installed. The vehicle had not been repaired. I am having trouble get gas into the tank when fueling. The headlamp assemblies and bulbs are original equipment, so this is clearly a design defect. This happens while driving, parked, and even with the car completely shut off. Not safe when driving, we have to coast car off road to get started.
We have brought the car to the Chevrolet dealership today to see about replacing the headlights. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I have read on the internet that others have had the same problem, but there is not yet a recall. Witness stated Malibu braked and there were tire marks, no vehicle in front of Malibu at time of braking. I have read many similar complaints about other 2005 Malibus in various internet forums, and gm is apparently not willing to take any responsibility for the problem. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer or an independent mechanic. I set the vents back to blowing on me, and turned the temperature back down to cold.
Even so, the seats are definitely comfortable. I was on on on the highway so that was the scary part. Oh she just told me it does it to her under all driving conditions, at all speeds and even during normal start offs It will unless it doesn't think there is anything wrong, which I believe was one of the recall issues. While reversing out of the driveway, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer provided no solution other than stating that a recall had been performed. The contact stated that the steering shaft was worn and the joints were corroded.
It is surely not safe to even back out of the driveway let alone drive it. The chain is oiled by the engine lubrication. This was performed at gm dealer due to popping noise while steering, diagnosed at dealer. Bulletin 14118 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from October 1, 2007, through January 31, 2008. I hear air escaping and the pump will shut off. Parked and after 2 hours came back to car and would not crank.
